Friends

Friends.

So many faces
from so many places.
So many smiles
brightly
shining
glowing
filling me up with wonder.

Your lives
how do you do it?!
Mums and dads
from one to three, and more
kids
all of us
at some
stage
and still
within
just makin it up
as we go
together.

So glad you’re there
while we wait for our little ones
to tire themselves out
in the forest playground
after school.

Golden sunlight falls
through treetop spaces
and finds our faces
beaming.

So glad you’re there
to talk to
to hear
to learn from
to exchange
cause I’d be screwed if you weren’t…

From ‘John’s mum’, to Sarah.
From ‘Sarah’, to my friend.
Rebecca smiling, another sci-fi adventure, another calming tone.
Peter with a story, cheeky, in between something about titration and chemical valence.
Janet with another laugh, some wisdom, from the big kid among us (she’s got two over 12s!).
In my mind’s eye your faces flicker
a montage of content colour.

It all happens here
as our little ones play
away
and come back with dirtied hands, muddied knees and grins that hide their eyes.

Friendship is a magic
that never stops looking for a home
to practice
to reveal
to stun and to amaze.
It flies through me
and leaves me full.
In one single moment
it transforms
from the unknown and the mysterious
to the joy that is my connection with each of you.

Thanks to my kids.
