We were all once the children of somebody
so small and frail
so vulnerable and sensitive
so sweet and gentle
so easy to break.
We were all once that kid
playing like there was no tomorrow
so wrapped up in the moment
that we smothered ourselves with it.
Heartbroken that playtime had to end.
Distraught at the thought.
Tearful and disappointed.
We were all once a child
looking out at the world of adults, which now we steward
through sunset skies
toward a future we thought was infinite.
Toward a land full of endless possibilities.
We were all once sweet children
deserve’d of love, kindness, tenderness and care.
Shame how fast we seem to forget.
How different our meeting rooms
our conferences
our negotiations could be.
