We’ve been together

So long.

As winds wraps itself carelessly

through the dunes

Blowing lines like swirls of hair,

Wrapping around the love that I feel for you

Ever winding, ever shifting

On the fabric of my longing

To hold you

To feel you next to me

To hear your breath beside me as you fall asleep.

Brown, gold, hues of amber

Ribbons of mountains so tiny

Laid bare across one

And the other

Downward to infinity

Like the loneliness I feel without you

The fear that strikes me from the depths

Just to entertain

For but a moment

A day beyond you.

Warm air flows and swirls in korus and heaving breaths

Blowing out, and there at its end, the silence

Of the calm deathlike space between my out breath and the next in

Of the emptiness that I feel in all manner of my being

To pretend for an instant

Like the desert pretends to harbour water

That you, my children, might not forever be

Here at my side…
